Rites Thursday for Sgt. Sandrock
Funeral services for Sgt. Douglas Sandrock, 24, Nevada, will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Michael Rusk officiating. Burial will be in Nevada Cemetery.
Sgt. Sandrock, 24, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the garage of an apartment house in Dallas, Tex. during the weekend, Dallas police reported Monday night.
Sgt. Sandrock was born Nov. 30, 1945 in Ames, He attended the Nevada schools and graduated with the class of 1964.
He enlisted in the Marines, was schooled in photography, and served 13 months in Vietnam with a recon squadron. For 11 months, he served at the El Toro base at Santa Ana, Calif.
He was married to Marjory Genell Carrillo at Santa Ana. he was discharged from active duty in Oct. 1968 and lived in Nevada until he reenlisted Feb. 20, 1970.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Sandrock, Nevada; a brother, Merle Sandrock, Nevada; two sisters, Mrs. James Burton, Indianola and Lana Sandrock, Detroit Lakes, Minn.
A memorial fund has been established.
