Clifton Osborne Olson
Sept. 15, 1927 to May 14, 2000Clifton Osborne Olson, 72, of Nevada, died of cancer on Wednesday, May 24, at his home in Nevada.
He was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Jewell to Albert and Jennie (Gabrielson) Olson. He attended school in Jewell. He was a Seaman, First Class in the Coast Guard during World War II. He married Jane Severson in July 23, 1946, in Clarion. Cliff managed the Hart Lumber Company in Nevada for many years and was then self-employed in the plumbing and heating business. He retired in 1992 from the National Veterinary Services Lab in Ames after 16 years of service. After retiring, he worked part-time for Jacobson's Gun Center in Story City. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and Izaak Walton and enjoyed trap shooting and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Jane of Nevada; a son, Larry (and Claudine) Olson of Story City; a daughter, Cris (and Randy) Walker of Nevada; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Albert Olson of Belmond and three sisters, Marjguerite Folkerts and Dorothy Valen of Story City and Joan Hanks of New York.
His parents; a daughter, Connie Jo on May 14, 1981; and a sister, Delores Thorson preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 26, at Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Myron and Herzberg officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Homeward Hospice of Ames or the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
