Bertha Florence Shimer
Feb. 14, 1910 to July 21, 2001

Bertha Florence Shimer, 91, of Nevada, died of respiratory failure on Saturday, July 21, at the Story County Long Term Care where whe had been a resident since November of 2000.

She was born Feb. 14, 1910 in Union County, South Dakota to George H. and Winniefred M. (Corvey) Ingalls*. She was baptized and confirmed on March 30, 1947, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She married Clyde M. Shimer and was employed by the Diamond Brothers Grocery Store. She retired from the laundry department at the Story County Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the church circle. She loved to write letters and enjoyed her family and flowers. She was a longtime resident of Story County.

Survivors include a daughter, Grace Sunnes of Fayette; two sons, George Shimer of Austin, Texas, and Roy Shimer of Fort Wayne, Ind; 16 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1978; a son, Merlin in 1976; two brothers; two sisters; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Burial followed at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled the arrangements.
