Bessie Marie McAtee
Sept. 8, 1907 to April 6, 1996Bessie Marie McAtee, 88, of Nevada, died of congestive heart failure at the Story County Long Term Care facility on April 6.
She was born to Lew and Mary (Nelson) Larson in Nevada on Sept.8, 1907.
She was a lifetime resident of Nevada, and she married Arlo E. McAtee in Boone in September of 1926. She worked as a machine operator at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada and had also worked in housekeeping. She retired in 1972. She was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Donnelley Retirement Club. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing and embroidery.
Survivors include five daughters, Beverly Body of Belmond, Jean Starbuck of Colo, Judy Rasmussen of Nevada, Veletta Poush of Nevada and Nancy Haas of Eldora; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Illabelle Edge of Mesa, Ariz., and Ethel Sills of Winchester, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Her husband, a son Darrell Dean McAtee, her brothers Clifford Larson and Alvin "Bud" Larson, a sister Lillian Berns, on granddaughter, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and one son-in-law.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Memorial Lutheran Church with Pastor Ellen Taube officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home handled arrangements.
