Florence Marian Gjertson
Sept. 28, 1911 to Sept. 23, 1998Florence Marian Gjertson, 86 of Nevada, died Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of Avian Tuberculosis. The body has been donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines.
Florence was born Sept. 28, 1911 in Thor, Iowa to Knute and Jennie (Tokheim) Sandven. She was a 1929 graduate of Eagle Grove High School and attneded the University of Iowa. Florence married Kerbert Gjertson on July 2, 1929 in Thor, Iowa. She was a lab technician at the National Veterinary Service Lab and retired in 1986. She had also been employed by Donnelley Marketing. She was a long time Nevada resident and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. Florence enjoyed arts, crafts, sewing and gardening.
Florence is survived by a son, David Gjertson of Canon City, Colo.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Frankie Dahlen of Redfield and a sister, Molly Joberg of Ft. Collins, Colo.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, her husband on May 22, 1990, two sisters and two brothers.
Memorial services were held Sept. 26 at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in Florence's name at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.
