Elwood Davis Dies at Ames Wednesday; Funeral Rites Friday
Funeral rites for Elwood E. Davis, 75, former resident of this community, who died at the home of a daughter in Ames, Wednesday morning at 7:40, will be held at the Adams Funeral chapel in Ames Friday at 2:30. Burial will be in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery, by the side of the wife, who passed away about 5 years ago.
The death of Mr. Davis, who for many years lived on and operated a farm southwest of Nevada, and for time lived in this city, was due to heart trouble and other complications.
He is survived by two son, Frank Davis of Boone, and Joe Davis of Alameda, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Orrie May and Mrs. Jay Taylor of Ames; a brother, Ira Davis of Ames, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Mattingly of Ames and Mrs. Ida Smith of Bemidgi, Minn.
Mr. Davis was a native of Indiana, where he was born February 13, 1867. Coming first to Iowa, he located for a few years in Tama county, after which he moved to Story county and located on a farm southwest of Nevada in 1897, retiring from the farm about 8 years ago. He was united in marriage to Ida May Jordan in Tama county in 1894, three years before coming to Story county.
