RESPECTED CITIZEN OF NEVADA WAS CALLED BY DEATH ON SUNDAY
James W. Sowers, 79, pioneer is dead here today.
Death came in the respected pioneer very suddenly, Sunday morning he had walked up town from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Homer Boyes, where he had been staying. In his usual health he talked with various friends and shortly before noon walked back home.
Shortly after he was found by Tom Blakemore, a passing neighbor, lying upon the porch struggling in misery. Help was called. Mr. and Mrs. Boyes summoned from church, Dr. Houston, the family physician called, and everything possible done to relieve him and save the life, but to no avail. A hemmorhage and blood clot claimed him.
He had been a well-known figure in Story county and Nevada for nearly his entire life or four score years.
Coming to Story City with his parents when a small boy, his home was soon established in northwest Milford township, where he and his good wife lived and prospered, while they raised a large family of sons and daughters.
A man of sound business judgment, who had accompanied a fine competence for himself and family, he was often called in as a consultant in affairs of others and his advice and counsel were always found valuable.
Funeral services will probably he held some time Thursday, dependent upon the arrival of the youngest daughter, Miss Mildred, who is leaving Los Angeles, today, for Nevada.
There are eight living children. They are Mrs. Blanche Boyes of this city, Mrs. Byrd Carey of near Ames, Mrs. Jessie Montgomery of Mason City, Miss Irma Sowers of Des Moines, and Miss Mildred Sowers of Los Angeles. The three sons are George Sowers of Pleasant Grove, Henry Sowers of St. Paul and Dr. James Sowers of Bancroft. He also leaves two half brothers, a number of grand children and many other relatives.
