Manford Clarence Hobson, son of George W. and Lucinda Lewis Hobson, born on January 21, 1886 at Tangler, Indiana, and passed away at the Story County hospital at Nevada, Iowa, on Nov. 8, 1959 at the age of 73 years, 9 mo., and 8 days. He had been in failing health for the past year.
At the age of twelve years he moved with his parents from Indiana to Illinois. He became a resident of Story county, Iowa in the year 1916.
On October 19th, 1904 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Berkshire. To this union six children were born, two sons and four daughters. His wife, Dorothy predeceased him in death on August 29, 1932.
On March 14, 1936 he was married to Edith Boynton, who survives him, together with his sons Clarence of Nevada, Iowa, Arthur of Zearing, and daughters Eurom and Rozella Crum of Albion, Emma Kemmerer and Ruby Otto of Nevada. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Sinkes of Seymour, Indiana and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Manford's entire life had been spent in farming, the greater share of the time near Nevada and Collins. Due to failing health he had retired from active farming in the year 1959, but his main interests were still in the land, his home and family. He and his wife had recently purchased a home in Maxwell, where he resided at the time of his death.
He was raised in the Quaker faith, but as a young man, joined the Evangelical United Brethren church at Blue Mound, near Champaign, Illinois.
Relatives from a distance attending the services were his granddaughter Mrs. Robert Grayson and daughter Laurie of Tulsa, Okla., his sister, Mrs. Margaret Sinkes of Seymour, Indiana, nephews, Edward Sindes, Eugene Sinkes and Victor Sinke, all of Seymour, Indiana, tow nieces, Mrs. Joe Schaeffer of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Elma Jarrett of Seymour, Indiana. Others attending the services from out of town were from Boone, Mingo, Collins, Nevada, Ogden, Waterloo, Zearing and State Center.
