Edward Johnson, age 60, of Ames, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames following a nine month battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa, with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 5-7 p.m.

Edward Lynn Johnson was born February 1, 1954, in Boone, Iowa, to Bruce W. and Geraldine (Moss) Johnson, Sr. He graduated from Boone High School in 1973.

On May 12, 1979, Ed was married to Linda Bowers at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. The couple was blessed with two children, Nicholas Tyler and Chelsea Nicole.

Ed recently celebrated 25 years of employment at Iowa State University Campus Services. He participated in the Demolay organization and also coached Little League baseball and AAU in Ames and Boone over a period of 26 years. He loved bowling, playing pool, and cheering on the ISU football and women's basketball teams. Ed was a dedicated employee and a loyal friend. He shared his positive attitude and work ethic with his family and was a perfectionist in everything he did.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda; two children, Nicholas Johnson and special friend Misty Hardy, and Chelsea Johnson, all of Ames; his mother, Geraldine Johnson of Boone; three brothers, Bruce W. (Wini) Johnson, Jr. of Akron, CO, Thomas A. (Lynnette) Johnson of Rio Rico, AZ, and Erick (Jill) Johnson of Jefferson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Edward and his family.
