Michael John Gowdy was born March 23, 1943 to Richard Henry and Miriam Genevieve (Simmons) Gowdy in Belmond, Iowa. Mike served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He married Marjorie Graff in 1966. Mike attended the University of Iowa and worked as a classical music announcer at WOI Radio for 30 years. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames and the Skunk River Cyclists. Mike was an avid reader, a craft beer aficionado and enjoyed music and movies.

Michael passed away March 13, 2014 at Green Hills Retirement Community at 70 years of age. His body was donated to Des Moines University.

Mike is survived by his wife, Marjorie Gowdy, of Ames; two daughters, Michelle (Chris) Wilson and their children, Sloane and Henry, of Los Angeles, California and Jessica Gowdy and her son, Schuller Rettig, of Portland, Oregon; his sister, Margot (Roger) Brockmeyer, of San Jose, California; and many friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Nicholas Gowdy.
