Ferne Hankins
April 25, 1899 to June 16, 1991Ferne Hankins, 92, of Wedgewood, Neb., died at her home of myocardial infarction.
She was born to Robert and Carrie (Elliot) Hankins at Elizabethtown, N.M. She was educated in Nevada and later attended Simpson College. She transferred to Drake University and earned her bachelor of science degree in business. She taught school at Oden and late at Ashland, Neb.
She retired from teaching in 1944 and began working for the Internal Revenue Service at Fremont, Neb. She later transferred to the Omaha, Nev. office and retired on Feb. 6, 1964. She moved to Grand Island, Neb., in 1974.
She lived in a local care home since February of 1990 due to failing health. She was member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Grand Island and the Rebekah Lodge and D.A.R. both of Nevada.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, including Ray Hankins of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. June 19 at the Nevada Cemetery.
