Wilma Adelaide Sutherland
Feb. 19, 1912 to May 17, 1997

Wilma Adelaide Sutherland, 85, of Nevada, died of a stroke on Saturday, May 17, in her home.

She was born to Henry and Ethel (Cook) Chitty in Fernald on Feb. 19, 1912. She remained a lifelong resident of Story County.

On Feb. 16, 1936, she married Harry Sutherland in State Center. She lived as a homemaker and belonged to First Assembly of God Church in Nevada. Her interests included family and grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons, Gary, of Marshalltown; Craig and Wendell, both of Nevada, Neil, of Ames, and Church of Des Moines; a daughter, Sandi Ryan, of Ankeny; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a sister, Henrietta Sutherland, of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry on Oct 7, 1987, and a granddaughter, Michelle Sutherland.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 20, at First Assembly of God Church in Nevada with Pastor Thomas Poppe officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
