Funeral Service for Mrs. Schauper
Special to the Journal:
Collins, Dec. 1--Funeral services for the late Mrs. Andrew Schauper of Collins, who passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1937, at 5:15 a. m. after an illness of several months, were held Saturday afternoon, Nov. 27. A brief service was held at 1:00 o'clock, at the Morfoot Funeral home at Nevada, then at 2:00 p. m. services were conducted from the Presbyterian church at McCallsburg her former home, with the Rev. L. T. Olson, of Marshalltown, close friend of the family in charge.A ladies quartet composed of Miss Catherine Craig, Mrs. Frank Noile, Mrs. Ruth Reid and Mrs. Lela Mills, with Miss Cleo Tett as accompanist, sant three songs "The Old Rugged Cross," "No Night There" and "Going Down the Valley."
The flowers were very beautiful and were so numerous that the casket seemed resting in a bank of bloom. They were a fitting tribute to one whom in life loved and carefully tended them. They were arranged at the church and cemetery by Mrs. Ora Hanson and Mrs. Hugh Fertig.
Interment was at McCallsburg the pallbearers being from Collins and chosen from close friends of the family. They were: A. C. Heintz, H. R. Sokol, Frank Patterson, Dennis Dodd, Fred Kimberley and P. J. Wetrich. The following is a brief live history of the deceased.
Julia Baumgardner, youngest daughter of F. J. and Mary Baumgardner was born near McCallsburg on July 23, 1882 and passed away at her home at Collins early Wednesday morning, Nov. 24, 1937 after an illness of several months, at the age of 55 years, 4 months and 1 day. She grew to womanhood in the McCallsburg neighborhood and on March 8, 1899 was united in marriage to Andrew Schauper, also of that neighborhood. To this union two sons were born, Russell F. of Collins and Harold of Maxwell. The family home was established near McCallsburg and they lived in that community until 1926 when they moved to Collins. During her residence in Collins she made many friends. She was interested in the welfare of this community and worked in its organizations.
She loved her home and family, was a good neighbor and a kind friend ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of sorrow or need and her passing is deeply mourned. She is survived by her husband Andrew Schauper, two sons Russell and Harold Schauper, five grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Gertrude Larson of McCallsburg, three brothers, B. B. and R. E. Baumgardner of McCallsburg and A. J. Baumgardner of Nevada, and a number of more distant relatives.
A niece, Mrs. C. S. Williams of Marshalltown and her sister Mrs. Larson spent much of their time here assisting in the care of the deceased. The services were very largely attended, people coming from a distance to pay their respects to one they had learned to love for her kindness of heart and consideration of others.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Baumgardner, Ed Baumgardner and Don Baumgardner of Illinois were among those from a distance attending the funeral services of the late Mrs. Andrew Schauper at McCallsburg Saturday.
