Obituary from Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Inc., Boone, Boone County, Iowa:

Denis Slagle, age 80, of 2025 Aldrich Avenue in Boone died December 24, 2013, at the Boone County Hospital.

He has been cremated and burial of his cremains will be in the Roland Cemetery in Roland at a later date.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, January 3, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Westhaven Community’s Chapel, 112 W. Fourth Street with Rev. Jeff McDowell officiating.

Denis George Slagle was born May 12, 1933, in Orthel Township in Hancock County near Britt, the son of Ollie and Flora (Fank) Slagle.

He attended school in Iowa Falls.

On January 27, 1951, Denis married Ida ‘Peggy’ Caruth in Iowa Falls. She died in October of 1990.

On July 6, 1991, he married Barbara (Coghlan) Stacy in Roland.

Denis worked for the Heart of Iowa Co-operative in Story County as a maintenance superintendent, retiring in 1995.

He also owned and operated Denny’s Tap in Roland where he was a member of the Moose Lodge in Ames and Boone and he was a member of the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.

He and Barbara moved to Boone in 1997.

Denis enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and going on cruises with Barbara.

He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and listening to country music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Peggy, five brothers: Raymond, Arthur, Melvin, Kenneth, and Harold Slagle; three sisters: Hattie Slagle, Bertha Slagle, and Rosemary Platt, and a great grandson Justin.

Denis is survived by his wife Barbara of Boone; two sons: Lyle (Joanne) Slagle of Hope, Arkansas, and Mark Slagle of Ellsworth; three daughters Denise (Steve) Smith of Collins, Chris (Gary) Vansickel of Nevada, and Kim (Dennis) Auld of Roland; a step daughter Stephanie (Todd) Reifenrath of Elmhurst, Illinois; his twin sister Doris (Cliff) Summers of Stratford; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; mother-in-law Virginia Baker of Boone; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In memory of Denis, memorials may be directed to the family.
