HENRY A. DIRKSEN

Henry A. Dirksen died in a Chicago hospital Monday after a two year illness with a lung disease. He was 48 years old and had been resident of Ames since 1919.

He was born in Alexandria, Iowa, on August 5, 1894, and came to Nevada in 1914, residing there for two years when he enlisted as a soldier in the world war. He returned from the war and settled in Ames in 1919, and has been an active member of the Ames Post of the American Legion and of the Elks. he operated a garage and oil station business at Duff and Lincoln way for about ten years until illness compelled him to retire from active work.

Always of a happy, cheerful disposition, he did not complain or tell of his suffering during the several years he was in such miserable health. He always had a cheery word, and greeting for all he met and he will be truly missed from this community where he was for so many years a familiar figure in the business of life.

He had been at Hines hospital since August 1, taking treatment for some pulmonary trouble. Previous to being taken to Hines he had been at the Disable Veterans hospital in Des Moines for some time.

Mr. Dirksen, who lived with his parents in Nevada for number of years before being united in marriage to Helen Abbott, daughter of Sadie Hemstock Abbott, has since his marriage been a resident of Ames.

He is survived by his widow, five brothers, Ole M. of Ames; H. R. of Mason City; R. H. of Pampa, Texas; J. H. of Los Angeles, Calif.; C. E. of Sumner; three sisters, Anna Dirksen and Mrs. Lou Hanson of Nevada, and Mrs. Guy Habernicht of LaGrange, Ill., and his father, John Dirksen, of Nevada.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday from the Congregational church, with Rev. A. R. McLaughlin in charge. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
