Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Letta O. Ritland (nee Houge), age 99, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Ames, was called home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames to be followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Slater.
Letta was born Dec. 31, 1914, in Sheldahl, Iowa, the only child of Oley and Hattie (Estrem) Houge. She graduated from Kelley High School in 1932 and from Waldorf College in 1934. She sang in the Waldorf Choir and later worked in the office of Dr. Robert Smith in Granger.
She married Herbert L. Ritland on August 14, 1938 and later became the mother of three sons. She was a long-time member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames and volunteered at Beloit Children’s Home. Letta maintained a life-long interest in the world around her and never tired of hearing of the activities of her large family. She will be remembered for her unselfishness and her friendly, out-going personality.
She is survived by her sons, Steven R. (Nancy) Ritland, of Houston, Missouri, Craig D. (Jenny) Ritland, of Waterloo and John T. (Susan) Ritland, of St. Louis, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; and thirty great-grandchildren.
Letta was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
