From Nevada Evening Journal April 1944

Mrs. Huldah Vail, 80, died at her home just east of this city this morning at 3:15, following an illness which dated back as far as December 19, when she suffered a stroke of paralysis and was taken to Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines. There she remained, making no apparent improvement until March 3, when she was removed to her farm home, where she had since been under the care of competent nurses.

Mrs. Vail whose maiden name was Mary Huldah Allen, was born at Tiskelwa, Illinois, December 6, 1863, a daughter of Henry and Mary Allen.

She was united in marriage to Edward Frank Vail January 10, 1893.

They established their home in Bureau county, Ill., and in 1884 moved to Russell, Kansas. Three years later they returned to Bureau county and in 1902 they came to Story county and resided on their farm in Milford township. In 1917 they moved to Nevada, where they lived until Mr. Vail's failing health made it necessary to live with the sons. On Sept. 11, 1938 Mr. Vail passed away and she has since made her home with Lester and Allen Vail, where she passed away April 28, 1944 at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 21 days.

She is survived by five sons, Albe Vail and Howard Vail of near Sioux Rapids, Lester, Allen and Frank Vail all of Nevada. Also one sister, Mrs. Addie Farley and one brother Hiram Allen of Illinois. There are also six grandchildren and one great grandson.

Mrs. Vail was an active member of the Methodist church, was a member of the Social Hour club and woman of very fine character and talent, and highly regarded by all who had her acquaintance.

Funeral rites for Mrs. Vail will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Nevada, with her pastor, Rev. Cooley, in charge. Interment will be in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery.
