From unknown newspaper January 1950

Mary E. Bryant, daughter of Ella and Josh Bryant, was born in Story county, Iowa, November 29, 18979, and passed away at the Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last Monday, January 16, 1950, at the age of 70 years, one month, and 18 days. She had been in poor health for the last three years, and yet her sudden passing was shock to her loved ones.

Mary was married to William L. Jackson on May 23, 1898, almost 52 years ago. To this union were born the following children: Leota, (Mrs. Paul Ward of St. Charles, Ill.), Leslie Jackson of St. Charles, Ill., Laurence Jackson of Belle Plaine, Iowa, and Luverne Jackson of Iowa City, Iowa. She is survived also by two granddaughters: Charlene Jackson of St. Charles, Ill. and Mary Leota Jackson of Iowa City, Iowa. Besides these loved ones, she will be missed by her faithful husband, Wm. Jackson and her brother, Byron Bryant, who lives here in Nevada. One sister, Melba, (Mrs. Roy Wampler), passed away in 1948.

Mrs. Jackson was a long time resident of Story county. She was member of the Nevada Christian church. It was in 1917 that they moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa, and her husband has been for years Director of Social Welfare in Benton county.

They attended church in Belle Plaine. Mrs. Jackson worked with the Methodist church in the city, especially the Ladies Aid Society, and they very often attended a small church close by their home in the neighborhood.

Mrs. Jackson has been very devoted to her brother, Byron, who has been quite ill for some time, and is now not able to attend theses services for his sister. She made regular visits up here to see him and has been a very constant source of inspiration to him and to his devoted wife, Ruth Bryant.
