GEORGE L. GIBBS

George L. Gibbs, 71, of 1628 Fifth St., Nevada IA, died Monday, July 20, 1987, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames IA.

Death was due to cancer. He had been ill the past two months.

Mr. Gibbs was born June 1, 1916, at Sac City IA, to Lewis and Estella Harris Gibbs. He had been a resident of Story County the past 67 years. He was married to Lila Hoover Jan. 21, 1939 at Nevada.

Survivors include his wife, Lila; two daughters, Linda Howlett of Grimes IA and July Jennings of Cambridge IA; a son, Vic Gibbs of Baltimore MD; a sister, Harriet Aasalin of River Falls WI; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Gibbs was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Ames American Legion.

He retired as a machinist with the Ames School System in 1981.

Funeral services were held from Chet Ryan Mortuary, 5th St. and G Ave., Nevada, on Thursday, July 23, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Don Rothweiler officiating. Burial was in Nevada Cemetery.
