A. E. Edwards, Ames Laboratory executive, died
Alexander E. Edwards, 44, 611 Hayward Ave., died about 1:04 p.m. Thursday at Mary Greeley Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past several months.
Born Aug. 16, 1920 in Lynn, Mass., he came to Ames to attend Iowa State University in 1941. After services with the Navy in World War II, he returned to the University and received his degree in industrial administration in 1948.
He was a member of Cardinal Key, Beta Theta Pi, the Science Council and was Veishea chairman while a student.
He had been a business manager of the Ames Laboratory of the Atomic Energy Commission since June, 1948.
Mr. Edwards was a member of First Methodist Church and had been a Sunday school teacher for 14 years; was past exalted ruler of the Ames Elks Lodge, Elks district deputy for Iowa's southwest district and state Elks project chairman; a director of the Ames Community Chest.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly, a son, Bruce and a daughter Anne, both at home; his father Eric Edward, Oakland, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Derrill P. Crosby, East Greenwich, R. I.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. from First Methodist Church with the Rev. Lawrence B. Beals officiating. Graveside services will be conducted by the members of the Ames Elks Lodge at Iowa State University cemetery. The Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established for the Iowa Elks project. Gifts may be left at College Savings Bank.
