MRS. IVA A. BATES
Funeral services for Mrs. Iva A. Bates, 67, Collins were held Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. from the Cooper Funeral Home in Maxwell with the Rev. J. E. McClellan officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.
Pallbearers were Clyde Rieck, Claude Vogt, Arthur Calkins, Bert Hill, Howard Stoops and Clifford Markley.
Mrs. Bates was born in Collins on Oct 25, 1892, the daughter of Silas and Minerva Brown and died Sept. 7 after a lingering illness.
She was married to Ben Phares and to this union were born four sons, Roscoe of Nevada, Irving of Collins, Floyd of Ames and Marion of Knoxville; three daughters, Mrs. Elzina Norcross, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Esther Shepherd, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Pearlene Simerson.
She was later marred to James E. Bates. The couple had a son, Jimmy of Murray and two daughter, Mrs. Arlin Schellhorn if Waterloo and Edna Bates of Nevada.
Surviving are her husband and children, two brothers, Lloyd Brown of Springdale, Ark. and Lee Brown of Collins as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one son, one brother and three sisters.
