Johannes Edward Lindholm was born October 26, 1921 to Holger and Minnie (Anderson) Lindholm in Audubon, Iowa. He was the oldest of 3 children. After graduating from Audubon High School, Joe attended Dana College and Iowa State University and then served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Vera Knutsen in 1942, and they later divorced. He married Deloris (Thompson) Wailes in 1971.
Joe lived and worked in Audubon where he was very active in community service. In 1977 he moved to Ames. His career included owning a lumber yard, raising Angus cattle and Quarter horses and building houses, apartment buildings, college housing, low-rent housing and town houses. He partnered with his son, Curt, and others in fund-raising for spinal cord injury research and for the ISU golf teams. He enjoyed golf, horses, horse racing, playing cards, drinking coffee and conversing with just about anyone who wished to converse.
Joe died November 30, 2013, in the care of Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 92 years of age.
Joe is survived by his wife, Dee; his sisters, Gwen Christiansen and Mary Ellen Hill; his
children, Steven Lindholm, Craig (Judy) Lindholm, Gail Schayfer, Steve Wailes, Mark Lindholm, Curtis (Traci) Lindholm and Kathy Cartwright; his grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church or Israel Family Hospice House.
