Lewis (Mac) Appelgate Died Saturday P.M., Funeral Tuesday
Lewis (Mac) Appelgate, 83, native son of Story county and longtime Nevada resident, passed away Saturday* afternoon at 3:10 p.m. at his home, 1029 F avenue following an illness which kept him bedfast since January 15.
Death was due to complications. During his long illness he was given tender care by his wife and family. He was born Nov. 28, 1862 on a farm one and a half miles south of Nevada and had lived in Nevada and community his entire life. His parents were Louis and Louise Appelgate.
Mr. Appelgate was married April 27, 1905 to Lydia Belle Chapman at Marshalltown. He spent a few years on a farm near Nevada after his marriage, later he moved to town and operated a grocery store for several years. During the later years of his life he followed the carpenter trade until his health failed him a few years ago.
Funeral services will be held from the Ryan Funeral HOme Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. O. E. Cooley officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
Mr. Appelgate is survived by his wife and the following children: two sons, Dorrel Lewis Appelgate and Glen E. Appelgate, and three daughters Lelia Appelgate, Ruth Cherryholmes, and Doris Appelgate, all of Nevada.
The are also four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews surviving.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers, being the last of family of ten children. One son passed away a number of years ago.
