Robert Franklin Ogden
March 31, 1909 to Feb. 13, 2000Robert Franklin Ogden, 90, of Nevada, died of congestive heart failure on Sunday, Feb. 13, at Rolling Green Village, where he had been a resident since March 3 of 1997.
He was born March 31, 1909, in Nevada to Eugene and Mary (Moritz) Ogden. He was educated in the North Grant and Nevada schools. On July 18, 1938, he married Doris P. McConnell at her mother's home. he was employed by Iowa State University for 15 years and by the Nevada Municipal Cemetery for seven years. Hespent his entire life on his farm west of Nevada on old Highway 30 until moving into Nevada in November of 1990. He had been an active member of the Nevada Christian Chruch since 1943, serving as secretary/treasurer for 12 years and Sunday School superintendent for 28 years. He donated the land on which the "Welcome to Nevada" sign was erected west of Nevada on Lincoln Highway. He enjoyed collecting pens, driving his pickup and walking Sonny the dog.
Survivors include a daughter, Delores (and Ron) Weuve of Nevada; two granddaughters, Kim Weuve Cochran and Kristie Weuve Stensland, both of Nevada; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris, on Nov. 6, 1975.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with Dr. Fred C. Danforth officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Bob's name at the First Christian Church, Nevada.
