Barbara Helen Jensen was born November 3, 1932 to Lee C. and Ella H. (Pischel) Smith in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1951. Barbara and Lowell Robert Jensen were married on September 7, 1955. She worked at World Insurance in Omaha for 10 years before she and Lowell moved to Slater in 1972. Barbara worked at Virene’s Café in Slater for 3 years before going to work in food service at Iowa State University. She retired from ISU after 15 years of service.

Barbara was a member of Slater United Methodist Church, the UMW and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Barbara passed away August 15, 2013 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 80 years of age.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Diane (Bob) Knief of Des Moines and Janice Sams of Carmel, Indiana; her grandchildren, Brian and Kristin Sams of Carmel; her half-brothers, Glen Smith of Texas and Danny Smith; and her niece and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell; and her half-brother, Gary Smith.

Memorials may be made to Slater United Methodist Church.
