Bartel Mathison, 86, of 1704 Fifth street, Nevada died at Iowa sanitarium early Sunday morning after a long illness of various complications incident to his advanced age.
Funeral rites will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 from the Lilly funeral home with the pastor Dr. J. C. Simon in charge. Interment will follow in the Nevada cemetery.
Mr. Mathison was a native of Denmark but came to the United States 63 years ago and located in Nevada.
After farming for a time he engaged in drainage contracting work, having been a surveyor in the homeland. He continued in the drainage work for many years and had a wide reputation as a competent and responsible workman.
In 1887 he was united in marriage to Christina Nelson, daughter of a pioneer family here. Three children were born to this union, the only surviving one being Mrs. Hans Anderson. After the death of the first Mrs. Mathison he was married to Kathryn Stine, who also preceded the husband in death, leaving one son, Leo Mathison, with whom the father had made his home much of the time during the declining years.
Mr. Mathison was a long member of Memorial Lutheran church having been brought up in that faith in the land of his nativity.
Pallbearers to serve at the funeral will be from amonth the younger generation of his relatives, the being P. K. Mathison, Matis Mathison, Art Mathison, Kermit Anderson, Harle Bishop and Lyle Baumgardner.
Mrs. Mathison was a mean of high character, industrious, honest and upright in his business affairs, a good citizen and much beloved by his family, who will be joined in their mourning y a wide circle of friends and neighbors.
