Randall Sherwin Parker, 62, of Ames died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Israel Family Hospice House. He succumbed much too soon to a rare form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Randy was born on May 15, 1951 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to Richard and Juanita (Larson) Parker. He was united in marriage to Patricia J. Oberman in 1972. Randy received his bachelor's degree from ISU, and was employed as a data processing manager for Donnelley Marketing (Info USA) until his retirement in 2009. Randy was an avid supporter of Iowa State athletics; he enjoyed reading mysteries and historical books, spent hours cooking wonderful meals for friends and family, was a lover of "the blues," an adventurous traveler, a collector of Southwestern art, and loved riding roller coasters with his daughter. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Blues Society and the Cyclone Club.

Randy is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Parker; his father Richard S. Parker; a daughter, Courtney Anne (Brandon) Dunmire, two grandchildren, Damian and Alistor, all of Ames; a sister Tamara (Kelly) Parker Ward of Davidsonville, MD; mother-in-law Charlene Lippolt of Humboldt; two brothers-in-law, Mike Oberman of Humboldt and Charles (Dawn) Oberman of Minneapolis, MN.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Parker, paternal grandparents Russell and Doryce Parker, and maternal grandparents, Walter Larson and Alvira Madsen.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 19 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street, Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Cremation will follow the service and Randy's cremains will be placed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery Columbarium. Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted in the care of Randy and his family.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Randy for the Ames Public Library.
