Betty Althan Quam, 95 of Ames died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Green Hills Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19 in the Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Roland Cemetery.

Betty was born on March 16, 1918 in Roland to Eric and Amy (Gaard) Waugh. She was confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. Betty was a graduate of Roland High School and CCCC Business School. She was employed by the State of Iowa Conservation Commission prior to her April 11, 1941 marriage to Grant J. Quam in Glendale, CA. They moved back to the Ames area in 1945.

Betty is survived by three sons, John (Susan) Quam of Montara, CA, Jim (Susan) Quam of Sun Valley, CA, and Jerry (Linda) Quam of Fairview, TX; a daughter, Marilyn Trow of San Mateo, CA; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother Bill Waugh of Roland; numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Grant on October 27, 2007, two brothers Rich Waugh and Bud Waugh.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Betty to the Music Department of Ames High School.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Betty and her family.
