Dennis James Stansbury
October 2, 1958 - June 3, 2013

Dennis James Stansbury, 54 of Newton, formerly of Nevada, died on Monday June 3, 2013 in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Dennis was born on October 2, 1958 in Nevada to Duane P. and Alberta I. (Appelgate) Stansbury. He was a 1978 Nevada High School graduate. Dennis was employed by Fareway until 1998 when he became a detention officer for the Jasper County Sherriff's Department in Newton. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Elks, past president of the local Newton Isaac Walton, and state board member of the Isaac Walton. Dennis enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with his beloved yellow lab Abby.

Dennis is survived by his parents, Duane and Alberta Stansbury; a sister Connie (Steve) Hambly; nephew Brett (Emily) Hambly, all of Nevada; two nieces Amy (Chris) Mathis of Elkhart and Angie (Blaine) Oakie of Ankeny; six great-nieces and nephews Luke and Erik Hambly, Mackenzie and Trevor Mathis, Hannah and Joey Oakie; and his best friend Abby the dog.
Dennis was preceded in death by all of his grandparents.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Dennis.
