Shirley Ann McIntosh
April 12, 1938 - April 15, 2013

Shirley Ann McIntosh, 75 of Boone was promoted to Heaven on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Boone County Hospital. A Homegoing Celebration will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19 at the First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th Street in Nevada with Dr. William Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Colo Cemetery.

Shirley was born on April 12, 1938 in Indianola to Howard E. and Theola Faye (Slater) Sparks. She was a graduate of Colo High School in 1956. Shirley received her A.A. in Biblical Studies with the summa cum laude designation, B.A. in Theology, and Masters in Christian Education with the summa cum laude designation at the Kingsway Bible College in Des Moines. She taught theology also at the college for several years.

On October 13, 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to Darrell W. McIntosh at the United Methodist Church in Colo. They lived in Nevada and Shirley was the owner of the Kiddie Kampus Preschool. When they moved to Boone in 1979, she and Darrell were the owners and operators of Emporium Antiques and Gifts in Boone until 1999. Shirley was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada. She loved spending time with her family, going to revivals, and antiquing.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Kelly (Brenda) McIntosh of Unadilla, NE and Dylan McIntosh of Hastings, MN; a daughter Rebecca Anne Harrison of Allen, TX; seven grandchildren Marshall and Grant Harrison, Meghan, Ryan (Leslie), Keegan, Gillian and Kalli McIntosh; two great-grandchildren Oliver and Reagan McIntosh; six brothers William Sparks of Bettendorf, Robert (Arlene) Sparks of Milan, MO, Phillip (Linda) Sparks of Ft. Dodge, Richard (Vicky) Sparks of Tomah, WI, Ray (Annette) Sparks of Sevierville, TN, and Jack (Sally) Sparks of Hutto, TX; three sisters, Donna Sparks of Ames, Delores (Tuney) Strozewzski of Pleasant Hill, and Dinah Sparks of Tomah, WI.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell on October 29, 2005, six brothers LeRoy, Glen, Donald, Charles, Raymond, and Terry Sparks.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 18 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Shirley.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Shirley and her family.
