Joseph Benedict Baldus
August 30, 1917 - June 1, 2013Joseph Benedict Baldus was born on August 30, 1917 to Carl L. and Mary Alice (Garland) Baldus in rural Story City, Iowa. He graduated from Story City High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army from March 7, 1941 to October 4, 1945 with his highest rank being a Tech Sergeant. He married Joanne Matt on September 19, 1946. He farmed until his retirement in 1982. He lived all his life in the Story City area and a lifetime member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he was the very first baby to be baptized. Organizations he was involved with were the Knights of Columbus, the Story City American Legion, and the Story City Co-op Board. He was very involved with St. Peter and Paul Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, playing his harmonica and most of all going to his grandchildren’s activities.
Joseph Benedict Baldus, 95, passed away on June 1, 2013 at his home in Story City, Iowa.
He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Joanne; and children: Sister Mary Jo Baldus and Sister Judy Schaefer of Winona, MN; Joe and Lana Baldus of Cedar Rapids, IA; Kathy and Tim Meyer of Clive, IA; Dan and Janie Baldus of Montezuma, IA; Tom and Deb Baldus of Osage, IA; Theresa and Steve Kokontis of Cedar Rapids, IA; Beth Baldus (Lyle Bowe) of St. Paul, MN; Kevin and Janet Baldus of Roland, IA; Julie and Steve Moats of Roland, IA; grandchildren: Joe and Sara, Justine and Keith, Stephanie and Chris, Mathew and Audra, Mark and Beth, Luke and Katie, Sarah and Jason, Ben and Tracy, Nate and Colleen, Derek, Jereme, Adam and Carol, Abby and Mike, Peter, Levi, Daniel, Kenneth, Karl and Alexis, Justin and Michelle, Laura and Clint, Anna & Mitch, Mary and Reikel, Ena and Paul; great grandchildren: Hunter, Brie, Maggie, Madison, Cameron, Maci, Sylvie, Isaac, Michael, Emory, Stella, Malone, Tristan, MacKenzie, Keegan, Holden, Riley, Aiden, Collin, Broden, Leonard, and Zoe Jo
Preceded in death by: his parents; 12 brothers and sisters, John, Theodore, Lawrence, Alfred, Father Leonard, Edward, Mary, Francis, Jim, Georgie, Dorothy and Cecilia.
