David L. Cavanaugh
May 24, 1952 - May 15, 2013
David Louis "Dave" Cavanaugh was born May 24, 1952 to Gordon Thomas and Marilyn Joyce (Wicker) Cavanaugh in Davenport, Iowa. He grew up in Davenport and graduated from Davenport West High School where he qualified for state on the swim team. Dave earned a B.S. in Zoology from Iowa State University and worked as a Histotechnologist for Iowa State University Veterinarian Diagnostic Lab for 25 years and as a supervisor of Histopathology for McFarland Clinic for 8 years. He also worked part time for 18 years at Holub Garden and Greenhouses because of his love of gardening. Dave was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames, the National Society for Histotechnology and the Iowa Society for Histotechnology. He loved to play piano and recorded several CD’s of his own music.Dave passed away May 15, 2013 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 60 years of age.
Dave is survived by three daughters, Jane Cavanaugh of Ames, Libby (Travis) Wielenga and their daughter, Quinn, of Ankeny and Carrie (Joe) Klosterman of Ankeny; his brother, Steven (Patricia) Cavanaugh and their children Alex and Katie of Cedar Rapids, his sister, Connie (Don) Koehler and their children Jackie and Ryan of Portland, Oregon; and his brother Tom (Jolene) Cavanaugh and their children Dan, Sean and Aaron of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Matthew and Ruth Cavanaugh and Ralph and Helen Wicker; and his nephew, Kellen Cavanaugh.
Memorials may be designated to Youth and Shelter Services, 804 Kellogg, Ames or LCMS World Missions, 1333 S. Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO 63122.
