DR. ALVIN AXLEY ROSE
Alvin Axley Rose, born June 19, 1880 at Riceville, Tenn., died at his home in Story City Nov. 14, 1967
He was athe son of Rachael Boyd and Thomas Jefferson Rose.
He was an honor graduate of the University of Nashville, Tenn., with a medical degree in June, 1907. Dr. Rose was a veteran of World War I.
Dr. Rose practiced medicine in Huxley and in Gilbert before moving to Story City in 1923. At the time of his death, he had been a doctor for 60 years.
Dr. Rose was honored in 1957 by the University of Tennessee, Nashville, for his medical service for the 50 years since his graduation. He was also honored by the State of Iowa and by the Story and Boone County Medicla Society Oct. 17, 1957 for his service.
The community of Story City honored Dr. Rose Sept 26, 1957, for his 35 years of service to the town.
Oct. 12 of this year, Dr. Rose was presented a Story City Lion's Club community service award.
Dr. Rose is survived by his wife, Julia, and a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Elaine Shafer, Wheaton, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alvin Axley Rose, Jr., who was born May 27, 1916 and died May 18, 1919.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 1907, from Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church, with the Rev. Paul H. Beckman officiating. Burial was in Story City Cemetery.
