F. W. Lorch died Monday
Dr. Frederick William Lorch, 73, Sherman, Tex., died there Monday morning.
A native of Wuppertal, Germany, he came to Iowa State University as an instructor in the English ans speech department in 1921, and served as head of the department from 1942 to 1959.
He was a Fulbright lecturer on American literature at Goettingen, Germany in 1951-1955.
He was a member of St. John's by-the-campus Episcopal Church while at Iowa State.
Dr. Lorch had been chairman of the English department at Austin College, Sherman, Tex. since 1964.
He had published more than 40 articles on Mark Twain, and had recently completed a book of the public lecture career of the humorist.
Dr. Lorch received his B.S. degree from Knox College, Galesburg, Ill. in 1918 and his master's degree in 1928 and his Ph. D. degree in 1936 both from State University of Iowa, Iowa City.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Jean Gerhardt, Dallas, Tex.; a son Robert Lorch of Garden Grove, Calif.; a sister, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday from St. John's by-the-campus Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Fr. Paul Goodland officiating. Burial will be in the Iowa State University cemetery.
