Nevada's Oldest Man Was Laid to Rest

In the passing of Andrew Han, who was 97 years of age and Nevada's oldest man, at the time of his death, Memorial Lutheran church lost one of its devoted members and community a good citizen.

The children and other relatives of Mr. Hans who have been here to attend his funeral, are very appreciative of the many kind expressions of sympathy on the part of friends in Nevada and vicinity, and wish to so express themselves to the neighbors and friends, who actuated the thoughts of noble character, which will long remain in the hearts of them who knew him.

Andrew Hans was born June 29, 1831 at Orbis, Germany and died May 3, 1928 at his home at Nevada, Iowa. He came to America in 1850 and settled in New York state where he worked as a farm hand and for a short time with a fisherman. In 1855, he moved to Illinois. While living there, he was married to Mary Schwab. The next year he and his wife moved to Oxford Junction, Iowa. To this union nine children were born. His wife and several children have preceded him in death.

In 1876 he was united in marriage to Malinda Hartman who also preceded him.

He moved to Jasper county in 1892, and settled on a farm three miles northeast of Newton. There made many friends and acquaintances among the older settlers of the community.

Some years later, he moved to Nevada, Iowa, where he resided at the time of his death.

He is survived by one son, Geo. A. Hans of Boulder, Colo., a daughter, Amelia, who has made a home for him many years. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Eldon and Shirley Hans.

Burial was made in the family lot at Oxford Junction.
