Story City man killed in Thailand

A Story City man was killed Friday when an Air Force reconnaisance plane crashed into a radio station at Uborn Air Force Base in Thailand.

S/Sgt. Edward Strain, 24, serving with the special forces as news programmer at the Uborn radio station was working in the station at the time of the crash.

Sgt. Strain enlisted in the Air Force as a career man three years ago. Previously he had served with the U.S. Navy for four years. He had been in Thailand since August, with his tour of duty there scheduled to end next August, when he was to be transferred to Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a daughter Tracy, 3; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Strain, Story City; three brothers, Robert, Sacramento, Calif.; Max Jr. and Randy of Story City; a sister, Mrs. Sandra Anderson of Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home, Story City.

Edward Strain services Monday

Funeral services for S-Sgt. Edward Strain, 24, Story City will be Monday at 10 a.m. from S. S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, southwest of Story City, with the Rev. Fr. Phillip McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Story City Cemetery.

A Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home, Story City.

Sgt. Strain was killed April 10 when an Air Force resonnaisance plane crashed into a radio station at Uborn Air Force Base in Thailand.

He enlisted in the Air Force in Dec. 1966 as a career man. Previously he had served with the U.S. Navy for four years until his discharge in July 1966. He had been in Thailand since Augusst, with his tour of duty scheduled to end next August, when he was to be transferred to Germany.

Sgt. Strain was born July 17, 1945 in Chicago.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a daughter, Tracy, 3; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Strain, Story City; three brothers, Robert of Sacramento, Calif.; Max Jr. and Randy of Story City; a sister, Mrs. Sandra Anderson, Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

Ther will be military rites at the graveside.
