Helen Branon, 92 of Colo, Iowa passed away on Saturday January 5th, 2013 at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City, Iowa. Funeral services for Helen will be held at the Colo United Methodist Church at 10:30am on Thursday January 10th. Visitation will be held at the Colo United Methodist Church on Wednesday January 9th from 5 p.m-7 p.m. Burial will follow at the Colo Cemetery in Colo. Memorials are recommended to be given to the Bethany Life Foundation-Employee Appreciation Fund or the Colo United Methodist Church in honor of Helen. Helen Branon, 92 of Story City and formerly Colo, passed away on Saturday January 5th, 2013 at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City. Aveline Helen Branon was born April 9th, 1920 in rural Colo. Helen was the daughter of Contradina (Dina) and Ernest Hartwig and was the younger sister of four brothers: Elmer, Arnold, Leland, and Ernest. Helen graduated from Colo Community High School in 1937 and lived for a brief time in State Center. Helen married Clayton Myers of Colo, Iowa on November 14th, 1942 in Colo. They resided and farmed outside of Colo and eventually lived in Colo until Clayton passed away in August of 1962. Helen was remarried to Kenneth Branon on February 18th, 1966 and remained in Colo. She worked for many years and ultimately retired from Donnelly Marketing in 1980. Helen enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to see all 50 states and Europe during her and Ken’s 20 year retirement together. Helen was active in the Colo United Methodist Church throughout her life and was always known as an outstanding cook and friend. Helen enjoyed playing golf for many years. She was also always very proud of her flowers and garden. She loved to work outside and would most often be found outside watering and pruning. Kenneth passed away on May 25th, 2000 in Colo. Helen remained in Colo until the summer of 2009 when she moved to The Waterford in Ames. Helen then moved into Bethany Manor in Story city on November 1st of 2012. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, husband Clayton, husband Kenneth, nephew Dale, daughter Susan, and son-in-law Robert. Helen is survived by three grandsons Tony Dodd (Melissa) of Littleton CO, Jason Dodd (Kim) ofBloomington IL, and Jeff Dodd (Lisa) of Lehigh Acres FL, five nephews and one niece. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren: Joshua Quick, Tarynn Dodd, Keely Dodd, Hunter Dodd, Teeghan Dodd, Reece Dodd, and Morgan Dodd. Helen’s family would like to thank the Staff of the Waterford and Bethany Manor along with all the friends that have helped make the last chapter of her life relaxing, happy, and peaceful. Memorials are recommended to be given to the Bethany Life Foundation-Employee Appreciation Fund or the Colo United Methodist Church in honor of Helen.
