Martha Kash
December 22, 1931 - December 14, 2012Martha Kash, 80 of Colo, Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona after a short illness. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo, Iowa with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will take place in the St. James Catholic Cemetery also in Colo.
Martha was born on December 22, 1931 in Colo, Iowa, the daughter of Roger and Veva (Ray) Hopkins. Martha spent her childhood in Colo and graduated from Colo High School in 1949. She attended Iowa State University in Ames, was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics. While in college, Martha met Norbert Kash and they were united in marriage on January 10, 1953 in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo.
Martha and Norbert lived in several locations during their marriage including: Waterloo, Iowa, Colo, Iowa, Mount Prospect, Illinois, Emington, Illinois and Joshua, Texas before returning to Colo in 1989 to retire. During her life, Martha was a teacher, realtor, and insurance agent. She was very active in community and church events including Colo Cares, Colo Clothing Share, Trees Forever, and St. Mary's Catholic Church. For over 20 years, Martha and Norbert enjoyed the winter months in Tucson, Arizona where she attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, volunteered at Reach Out Pregnancy Center, and was involved in the Catholic community of Tucson Estates. She sang in Arizona with the Cat Mountain Jamboree and the Western Way Chorale. Martha loved gardening and helping others, but her greatest passion was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved having all of her family together.
Martha is survived by her husband, Norbert of Colo; seven of her children Patrick Kash of Baraboo, WI, Joe Kash of Colo, Angie (Tony) Krainik of Phoenix, AZ, Tony (Nancy) Kash of Colo, Monica Kash of Erie, CO, Meg (J.B.) Lassarat of Houston, TX, and Rose (Dan) Cheke of Phoenix; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister Veva Schreiber of Lake Forest, IL; and a brother Mike (Nancy) Hopkins of Fort Meyers, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Timothy Kash and daughter-in-law Shelley Kash.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15 with the family present after 5:00 p.m. A Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. again at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo.
A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Martha for St. Mary's Altar and Rosary and Colo Cares.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with Martha and her family.
