Funeral services for Harold Olene Thorsbakken, 74, were held Monday, April 17, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with the Rev. Gary Fehring officiating.

Music was provided by Laurel Nelson, Darwin Bruesewitz and Leon Sieve. Pallbearers were Alan Thorsbakken, Adam Thorsbakken, Tim Thorsbakken, Tom Thorsbakken, Gary Bryan, Al Montcalm, Marv Muller and Lenny Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Dietz, Sr. and the Antique Car Club. Military honors were handled by the Milaca VFW and the American Legion.

Arrangements were by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.

Mr. Thorsbakken died Thursday, April 13, 2000 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.

He was born Oct. 29, 1925 in Kenyon, Minn., to Otis and Emma (Larson) Thorsbakken. At the age of four, he moved with his family to Story City, Iowa, where he grew up and attended school. He joined the U.S. Navy in December of 1943 and served two and one-half years on board the U.S.S. Jason in the Southwest Pacific. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

He married Leona Bergeson Dec. 28, 1947 in Story City. They had five children. They farmed together and Harold worked as a mechanic at the Chevrolet dealer in Ames, Iowa. In March of 1958, they moved to a farm south of Bock, Minn. At this time, Harold also started his life insurance business and he worked as an agency manager until his retirement.

He was a member of the Milaca chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, the Milaca City Council, the Mille Lacs County Fair Board and the City of Milaca Planning Commission. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca where he served as the church council president. He was also a member of the Milaca VFW and the American Legion and a founding member of the Antique Car Club.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Leona of Milaca; children, Dan and wife Jackie of Princeton, Craig of Princeton, Cindy and husband Stu Dahlman of Minnetonka, Mark and wife Gail of Milaca and Susan and husband Gary Burke of Watertown, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Alan, Lisa, Heather, Nichole, Adam, April, Lindsay and and Alexandra; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Chase and Collin; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles; and two sisters, Dorothy and Shirley.
