Tuesday, September 15, 1953 Death Today of Lucian C. Tilden In Ames Hospital
Lucian Cooper Tilden, 84, died this morning in the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Story County, Iowa after an illness of a couple of months. Funeral services will be held at the Ames Congregational Church Thursday, September 17 at 1:30PM with the Reverend Murray Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Cemetery.

Mr. Tilden, who was Executive Head of the Tilden Department Store from 1895 to 1946, a period of fifty years, had been retired for some time. He had lived in Ames since 1869. Mr. Tilden was a charter member of the Ames Rotary Club and during his entire residence in Ames, was one of its outstanding citizens and businessmen.

Surviving this man, whose name has been identified with the city of Ames for nearly a quarter of a century are his wife, Ruth, his son, Clark D. Tilden, his daughter, Mrs. Harriet McJimsey all of Ames, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Galen Tilden and one sister, Mrs. Harry Brown both of Ames. The body is at the Adams Funeral Home in Ames.
