Aileen L. Johnson

Aileen Johnson, 82, of Story City, the mother of Gaylen Johnson of Grinnell, died of cancer Wednesday, June 7, at Story City Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted June 9 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, with the Revs. Thomas Hunt and Stephen Anenson officiating. Burial was in Story City Cemetery.

The daughter of John and Elizabeth Sunnoe, she was born July 3, 1912, in Stanhope. She was a 1929 graduate of Story Ctity High School.

On Nov. 30, 1939, she was married to Gaylord Johnson in Story City. They lived in the Story City area where Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and worked as a writer, bookkeeper and historian at The Story City Herald for 30 years.

Surviving are her husband; one son, Gaylen of Grinnell; one daughter, Kathy Reed of Eugene, Ore.; five grandchildren; and four sisters Mae Munsen, Hilma Paulson and Margaret Larson, all of Story City, and Viola Hanson of Austin, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Joe, Oscar and Irvin Sunnoe; and five sisters, Selma Wike, Ruth Rognehaugh, Sophie Oakland, Emma Peterson and Josephine Jones.

A memorial fund in her name has been established.
