From Nevada Representative July 19, 1882
DIED.
In Nevada, Iowa, Monday morning July 16, 1882, after long suffering, and protracted illness, Thomas Templeton.
His life, since boyhood, had been spent for the most part, in Nevada. He was born July 20, 1856 in Brookville, Pa. His parents removed to Nevada 1868. Here he finished his school days and began the active duties of life. Here, after a few short years, he closed up his life record and passed through death's open gateway into the life beyond. In the spring of 1869, he became interested in the subject of religion and united with the Presbyterian church in whose communion he died.
September 15th, 1875, he was married to Miss Sadie Tanner, of Nevada. Once before had death visited this household, calling for the little "Charlie" who passed on before to wait for all the rest. Two children and a bereaved wife are left to mourn the loss of the husband and father.
As a citizen, Mr. Templeton had the respect, confidence and best wishes of all who knew him. From a good boy he developed into a good man. As a christian, he made a good record where others failed. Beginning religious life as a boy with other boys, he was soon left to prove the matter for himself, and for thers, as the whether a boy could stand alone among boys. He did. But 26 years soon fled. He is gone. We shall miss him. But Nevada has lost a good citizen. The church a conscientious and true member. The family its head and support. The state needs many just such men, and society would begin its millenium if all men were as good. It seems as if we could have better spared a score of other men. But such is the mystery of life's history. How blessed that, Got knows.
It is fitting to add that his death was one of uncommon christian triumph. His little ones, his wife, his parents, who in him lost their last child, all have the warmest sympathy of a very large circle of friends.
"How blest the righteous when he dies,
When sinks a weary soul to rest!
How mildly beam the closing eyes!
How gently heaves the expiring breast!So fades a summer sloud away;
So sinks the gale, when storms are o'er;
So gently shuts the eye of day;
So died a wave along the shore.A holy quiet reigns around,
A calm which life nor death destroys;
And naught distrubs that peace profound,
Which his unfettered soul enjoys."
