Victor Sanford Duea, Jr. 80 of rural Nevada passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Sanford was born on November 3, 1932 in Roland to Victor S. and Ruth M. (Durby) Duea, Sr. While growing up he enjoyed the 4H Club and showing hogs at the County and State Fair. He graduated from McCallsburg High School in 1950. Following high school, Sanford went into the farming business and in 1953 was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in Germany until 1955. After his military service, he returned to Iowa and attended Iowa State University to study farm operations. On a fateful 1956 bus trip to the Ozarks and a couple of years of courtship, Sanford was united in marriage to Neva M. Reeves on September 20, 1958 at the Ankeny Methodist Church. In 1961, they moved to the rural Colo area to engage in farming and raise purebred Duroc Hogs for 50 years. He has been a long term member of the Memorial Lutheran Church where for many years he sang in the choir and also served on the church council. Sanford was also a long term member of the National Duroc Association and served nine years on the Colo Rural Coop Board. He is a current member of the 500 Card Club and the Kiwanis Golden K Club here in Nevada.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Neva of Nevada; three daughters, Cindy (Morri) Montazeri of Mukilteo, WA, Cheryl (Bruce) Slagle of Mexico, MO, and Connie (Todd) VandeKamp of Pleasantville; seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Mary Ruth (Robert) Egemo of The Village, FL and Corrine (Jack) Thomas of Columbia, SC; and a brother David (Mary) Duea of LaJolla, CA.
Sanford was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter Jacqueline M. Slagle.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 18 from 4-6:00 p.m. again at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
