Susan Kaye Sydnes
August 31, 1940 - August 27, 2012

Susan Kaye Erzinger Sydnes, 71, of Huxley, died at her home on Monday, August 27, 2012. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Fellowship and refreshments will begin at 7:30 pm at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church, 209 N Second Ave, Huxley.

Susan was born on August 31, 1940 in Fairfield, Iowa to Clair and Bernice (Stater) Erzinger. She graduated with honors from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs in 1958 and her family moved to Ames in 1960. Soon thereafter, Susan began working as a legal secretary and met her husband and the love of her life, Paul Sydnes. They were married on April 20, 1963. Shortly after Susan and Paul married they moved to the family homestead north of Huxley, where they lived their remaining years.

Susan had a lifetime love of animals. She was a warm, passionate, enthusiastic and compassionate person who loved her family and her animals. She always had a smile and friendly word for everyone.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Paul Sydnes, on August 19, 2011. She is survived by her three children, Penny (Ronald) Thiessen of Ames, Tami (Scott) Wilson of Huxley and David (Krystal) Sydnes of Ames; seven grandchildren, Jacob and Dylan Cellan and Rachael Thevenot, all of Ames, Abigail and Amanda Wilson of Huxley and Hayden and Gavin Sydnes of Ames; four step-grandchildren, Ashley (Sam) Blaisdell of Des Moines, Krystal Handy of Indianola, Kenny Thiessen of Norwalk and DJ Williams, of Ankeny; four great-grandchildren and her dog, Rusty.
