Alan was born on March 14, 1954, to W. Forrest and Lois Rasmusson in Nevada, IA. He graduated from NESCO High School in 1972. He attended Iowa State University and was a lifelong Cyclone fan.

He was united in marriage to Penny Allison on September 11, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He spent his career working in the manufacturing industry, retiring from Efco Forms in 2008. He enjoyed bowling, golf, ISU sports and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed working with his brother Charlie on the family farm. He held a special love for his grandchildren and his princess left a special mark on 'papa's' heart.

Alan is survived by his wife Penny Allison of Newton; his stepsons, Jason (Mindy) of Newton, Iowa and their children Adam, Lexi, and Joshua (Miranda) of Monroe, Iowa and their children Caleb and Carter; his mother, Lois Rasmusson of Nevada, Iowa; his brother, Charles (Chris) Rasmusson of Nevada; his sisters, Carol (Chuck) Balvanz Of Hubbard, Iowa and Donna (Bill Schwertley) Rasmusson of Ames, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Judy (Walt) Des Planque of Newton, Kathy (Mike) Van Tomme of Brooklyn, brothers-in-law Michael (Sharon) Allison of Newton, Jeff Allison of Kellogg, and Doug Allison of Newton; his aunt, Thelma Smith of Clemons, Iowa; several nephews and nieces; and many cousins.

Alan died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. He was 56 years of age and he was preceded in death by his father, W. Forrest Rasmusson; and his mother-in-law, Mable Allison.
