From The Des Moines Register obituaries, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa:

Lois Mae Higgs, 84, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny. Memorial services will take place at 2:30 p.m., at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, IA, on Sunday, February 13, 2011. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial of cremated remains will take place on Monday, February 14, at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Lois was born January 17, 1927, to William Guy and Lena May Perisho, in Zearing, IA. Lois was a high school standout in basketball and softball. She continued her basketball career into her college days at AIB in Des Moines. On December 19, 1945, Lois married James Edwin Higgs. Lois was an avid bowler and enjoyed her performances on "Let's Go Bowling." Lois was an exceptional baker, and many enjoyed her pies and cakes.

Lois is survived by her husband, Jim, of Ankeny; son, Craig Higgs, of Des Moines; daughter Becky Higgs DeGreo (Thomas), of Grass Valley, CA; son, Michael (Susan) Higgs of Slater; daughter, Tracie (Kim) Dean, of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Toby Higgs, Tamara Leann Nabity, Tera Baker, Sasha Handley, Hannah Korn, Jennifer Pearson, Ashley and Stephanie Higgs, Matthew Thomas, Mallory Brown, Jordan Dean; great-grandchildren, Grant and Abby Higgs, Gabrielle and McKenzie Nabity, Rachael and Meghan Baker, Aubrie Beeson, and Aiden and Grayson Brown.

Lois was preceded in death her brothers, Verle, Elvin, Bill, Vern, Boyd, Lloyd, and Howard; sister, Peg Tichenor and two infant sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Mercy Hospice.
