Miss Hague, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hague of this city, has lived practically her entire life in this vicinity, her early childhood with her parents in Nevada township later moving into Navada. She graduated from the Nevada high school with the class of 1921 finishing from the Normal Training department.
Following graduation she has attended the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and taught in the schools of the county. The present year she was teaching in the North Grant consolidated schools giving up her work last Thursday that she might submit to a necessary operation. Miss Hague during her short life had endeared herself to all who knew her. Her unusually sweet and sunny disposition, her faithfullness to all tasks before her, and the evident promise of future usefulness makes her passing one of great regret and sorrow.
The following obituary and tribute was read by Rev. Wackerbarth at the funeral service this afternoon.
Mabel Viola Hague was born June 19, 1900 in Brooklyn, New York and came to her premature death on January 19, 1926, having reached the age of 25 years and 7 months. During the past few months her health has not been good but she has been at her work all of the time until Wednesday of last week when her condition became such that it necessitated her remaining at home. Thursday duty urged her to resume her work at school. After returning home in the evening a physician was consulted and an operation was found necessary. Friday morning Miss Hague was taken to the Iowa Sanitarium where she was operated upon. She suffered intensly but endured patiently until the end came Tuesday evening about 8:30.
Miss Hague graduated from the Nevada High School in 1921, and then began to teach, first in a country school south of Nevada. Three years were spent in the school at Fernald where she made a large circle of friends. Since September she taught at the North Grant Consolidated School. She rendered fine service as a teacher, and took a real interest in her pupils and the school work.
At the age of 12 years, Miss Hague was converted and united with the Summit Church. later her membership was transferred to the Evangelical Church of Nevada. She was interested in the work of the church and contributed her part in the service. For a number of years she was the teacher of the Beginners Sunday School. She was also a leading member of the choir where she rendered valuable service. The last Sunday she was present in the Church services, the young people showed their regard for Miss Hague by electing her president of their Sunday School class.
She leaves one brother and is missed greatly by Mrs. Hague to whom she has been a great comfort, especially since the sudden passing of Mr. Hague. Miss Hague followed Mr. Hague after two years and two weeks to the day.
"Death lies upon her, like an untimely frost
Upon the sweetest flower of all the field."A host of friends, whose admiration for Miss Hague is very high are left behind. She is missed in the home circle, among her friends, in the School room and in the Church.
