THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 11, 2012.

Joan Fees Pierson passed away March 31, 2012 at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence, Missouri from complications of a stoke.

Joan was born on May 3, 1927 in Corning, Iowa. She was the daughter of Everett and Rosella Fees. She attended Corning High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught school in the Corning, Iowa and Spencer, Iowa school districts. It was while she was teaching school in Spencer that she met Bob Pierson and they were married on Feb.19, 1950. To this union, three children were born; Cindy Carlson (Bill) of Story City, Iowa; James Pierson (Renee) of Lee's Summit, Missouri and John Pierson (Mary Jo) of St. Louis, Missouri. She had five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Bob and Joan resided on their farm in Clay County, Iowa for many years before moving to Story City, Iowa and then on to Winterset, Iowa where they owned and operated a motel. When they retied, they chose to move to Lee's Summit, Missouri. Joan lived 20 years in the Lee's Summit area where she was active in her church, Martin Luther Lutheran, and the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Joan was a tireless person who never gave up her zest for life. While living at John Knox Village she took advantage of every outing and function they offered. She loved swimming with the

girls at Summit Fitness and when she finally went into assisted living at the Villages of Jackson Creek, she always was ready to go to wherever the van was headed.

She will long be remembered for her upbeat personality and determination along with her never ending love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she loved every visit from them.

Services for Joan were held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, Missouri. Family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Lee's Summit.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at the Village of Jackson Creek for the great care they gave Joan, especially in her last few days. Their compassion was greatly appreciated. Thanks also to the staff from Crosssroads Hospice who did an outstanding job in helping the family and Joan during this difficult time. Their professionalism and kindness help to ease our concerns.
