THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, December 21, 2011.

A very amazing woman, Deborah R. Witte, 61, of Story City, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Deborah Ramona Witte was born in Marshalltown on July 2, 1950 to Arthur and Etta (Frieling) Witte. She grew up on an Iowa farm that provided her with a superior work ethic. She graduated from West Marshall Community High School with the class of 1968. Because of her passion for learning, she continued her education at Upper Iowa University where she received a teaching degree. Debbie's first teaching job was in Moravia where she taught 4th graders for one year. She then moved from southern Iowa and started a 32 year teaching career at South Hamilton Community Elementary Schools centered in Jewell. Debbie also earned a Master's Degree in School Administration from Drake University.

Debbie would tell people that her middle name was Iowa State Fair, one her many passions. Debbie had a special place in her heart for Karen Neuburger pajamas, tea rooms, and people. Her hobbies included traveling, photography, playing Texas Hold'em, and attending farm sales. Her favorite place was around water.

Debbie was preceded in death by her father and mother, and companion of more than 25 years, Bernie English. Survivors inclade an aunt in Marshalltown, many cousins and a multitude of friends.

The Celebration of Life service for Deborah Witte was held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. Interment was at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown.
