Wanda C. Mortvedt
February 20, 1918 - February 22, 2011Wanda Corrine Mortvedt, 93 of Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Story County Senior Care Center in Nevada. Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Funeral services will follow the visitation and begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating. Wanda’s final resting place will be at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery in Nevada.
Wanda was born in Marshalltown on February 20, 1918 to Myrtle “Maxine” Amundson. She was baptized on May 2, 1918 at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Wanda was confirmed on September 25, 1932 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. She attended Radcliffe High School and graduated as the class valedictorian in 1936.
Wanda married Amil Mortvedt on July 11, 1942 in Brownwood, Texas. After WWII the Mortvedts relocated back in Iowa where their two children were born and raised. She worked as a payroll clerk for R.H. Donnelly for 25 years until her retirement in 1980. Wanda enjoyed spending time with her family, making her famous kringla, cleaning, and attending Church. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, and Martha Circle.
Those left to cherish Wanda’s memories are her two children; Judy (Michael) Rhodes of Nevada, and Jim Mortvedt of West Des Moines; two grandsons Matt (Jill) Rhodes and Mark (Lynn) Rhodes; four great grandchildren Mara Rhodes, Hattie Rhodes, Ayden Rhodes, and Carson Rhodes.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Memorial Lutheran Church or Story County Senior Care Center.
Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with the care of Wanda and her family.
Service:Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 25 11 a.m at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor Myron Herzberg officiating.
Cemetery:
Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery
